Hi Mummys! My name is Caitlin, and I am a proud married mom of 3 little boys in Nova Scotia, Canada. I suffered the loss of my precious daughter, Hayley Paige, July 21st, 2002. Hayley was born at 12:12 am at 25 weeks, 5 days. She fought and fought, but at 12 hours, 17 minutes was diagnosed with an inoperable brain hemorrhage. The decision to take her off life support was the most horrifying decision I have ever had to make, but knowing my Angel was suffering was too painful to endure. So at 4:47 pm, the same day I should be celebrating her birthday, I held her as her heart stopped. I still wrestle with the choice I made, feeling guilty all the time. But deep down, it was the right thing to do. I miss her more than I thought I ever possible could, and think of that sweet face and tiny feet every day. At the age of 19, I was so alone and naive, and had no idea the toll it would take on me. There was no resources like facebook, and connecting with other moms was next to impossible.
Since then, I have branched out and have connected with lots of other moms and dads too! Helping newly bereaved moms is my calling in life. Myself, along with 3 other fantastic women, organized Halifax's first Walk to Remember and it was a huge success! I have also organized a support group called the Perinatal Bereavement Society of Nova Scotia and have had the pleasure of helping moms, and creating everlasting relationships.
I have worked extensively with families, surviving children, and friends. There is nothing more heartwarming than a mummy telling me how much my shoulder has meant to them, and how I have helped them through this horrific experience.
My 3 beautiful sons are 5 ,3, and 1. I talk to them about their "big angel sister" all the time, and she is such a huge part of our lives. My husband has been a terrific support throughout the last 8 years. I am a nurse, but am taking time off until my children are a bit older, and I am so enjoying my work with PBSNS and the Walk committee that I want that to be my "work" for the time!
I am SO honored to be a part of Babies With Wings! There is nothing more important to me! If anyone in Canada would like to chat, are in need of resources, or just need to vent their anger, frustrations, or sadness, PLEASE feel free to do so. I will be here!
Thanks to you all, and ((HUGS!))
