I was born here in Colorado and have lived here my entire life. This is the story about my angel Edward Eugne Casper- Russell.
Before I start on my journey as a mom let me tell you a little about me. I have a neural tube defect known as spinal bifida. As a child I had been told by many doctors that I would not be able to conceive a child. That all changed on October 14th, 2008. I went into the children hospital to do a normal renal ultrasound of my kidney s and bladder. I was watching the screen when the Tech asked me when my last period was. She didn’t want to tell me that I was pregnant in case it was something else. I was eighteen years old at the time. So immediately Edward was already my miracle baby. The doctors immediately put me on folic acid to help stop spinal bifida in my son. We had no clue what the pregnancy was going to do to me physically. I knew that no matter what I was not going to abort my baby that was never suppose to happen in the first place. Everything was going great. My boyfriend went to every appointment with me. I took my prenatal.
On February 17th, 2009 I went to school as I had a million times during my pregnancy. As soon as I got to school I went to the bathroom. As I stood up to walk out of the stall I doubled over in pain. I made it into my main hallway and doubled over again. At that moment my boyfriend and a bunch of my friends rushed to me. My boyfriend rushed me into the nurse’s office. We tried to call my mom. She didn’t answer her phone. I was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. I went by myself due to the fact that my boyfriend who wasn’t eighteen yet couldn’t leave without his mom’s permission. Thank fully my eldest brother is a cop and heard the dispatch call and was able to meet me at the hospital. I was exactly 26 weeks along and fully dilated. Unfortunately my son was breached and I was immediately prepped for a c-section. At this time my boyfriend was still not at the hospital. I went under sedation telling the doctors to save my baby and not me. When I woke up my boyfriend was sitting in a rocking chair holding a baby blanket. I thought he could handle our son for a little while I tried to wake up a little. At that moment he told me that I couldn’t go back to sleep. He then proceeded to tell me he had named our son. This surprised me. Then he told me the worse news of my life. Our beautiful son didn’t make it. My mom told me that the family could hear my scream from down the hall. That was the worst day of my life. I ended up going into depression. And things were getting worse when I discovered this website. Thanks to babies with wings I am doing much better with the loss of my son. And one year and two days after the first anniversary I found out that I am now expecting my baby girl.
